Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Leaf are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Dodge Charger Two-Door doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Leaf has standard Secondary Collision Mitigation Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Charger doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the Leaf and the Charger have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available front parking sensors.

Warranty

Nissan pays for scheduled maintenance on the Leaf for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Nissan will pay for tire rotations, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Dodge doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Charger.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Dodge vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Dodge is ranked 7th.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Leaf gets better mileage than the Charger running on electricity:

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the Leaf’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Dodge only offers a regenerative brake system on the Charger Daytona.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Leaf’s turning circle is 4.6 feet tighter than the Charger Six Pack’s (35.4 feet vs. 40 feet). The Leaf’s turning circle is 6.1 feet tighter than the Charger Daytona’s (35.4 feet vs. 41.5 feet).

Chassis

The Nissan Leaf may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 1450 pounds less than the Dodge Charger.

The Leaf is 2 feet, 9.2 inches shorter than the Charger, making the Leaf easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Leaf is 8.5 inches narrower than the Charger, making the Leaf easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the Nissan Leaf amounts to more than styling. The Leaf has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Charger (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Leaf get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Leaf has .8 inches more front headroom and .3 inches more rear headroom than the Charger.

Cargo Capacity

The Leaf has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Charger with its rear seat folded (55.5 vs. 37.4 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Leaf’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Charger doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Leaf Platinum+ has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Charger doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
